Greyhound field hockey defeats Limestone, 5-1, in non-conference game

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior forward APRIL BRUNELLE (Ashland, MA/Ashland) scored a goal and added an assist as Assumption College defeated Limestone, SC College, 5-1, in a non-conference womens field hockey game SUNDAY in the Multi-Sport Stadium.

Junior DANIELLE LUONGO (Northboro, MA/Algonquin) and freshman KRISTEN MANCHESTER (East Sandwich, MA/Sandwich) shared the goalkeeper duties for the Greyhounds making just three saves. Freshman goalie JULIE MEDEIROS (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) made two saves for the Lady Saints.

Senior forward SARAH RANIERI (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) opened the scoring for the home team at 23:48 on a brilliant unassisted play. The Greyhounds quickly made it 2-0 less than three minutes later (26:30) as junior forward BRITTANY BOYLE (Grafton, MA/Grafton) scored on a feed from senior back AMY LOONEY (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield).

They made it a three-goal advantage at the half as sophomore midfielder AMANDA WHALEY (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) scored on an assist from Brunelle.

Brunelle scored at 50:49 to make it 4-0 as senior midfielder ASHLEY RIVARD (Winchendon, MA/Murdock) set her up. Sophomore midfielder MEG DOW (West Bridgewater, MA/West Bridgewater) scored an unassisted insurance goal at 53:58 to make it 5-0.

The Lady Saints got on the scoreboard with 27 seconds left as freshman midfielder BECKY SAMPSON (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point) scored with an assist from freshman defender BRITTANY LAWSON (Salisbury, MD/Parkside).

The Greyhounds outshot Limestone, 13-5, while the Lady Saints had an 8-7 edge in penalty corners.

The Greyhounds are next in action WEDNESDAY when they travel to Northeast-10 Conference rival Franklin Pierce University at 4 p.m.
