Franklin Pierce stops Assumption field hockey, 1-0, in Northeast-10 Conference action

RINDGE, N.H. --- Sophomore forward LAUREN L'HEUREUX (Sanford, ME/Sanford) netted the first goal of her career as Franklin Pierce University defeated Assumption College, 1-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference women's field hockey game at Sodexo Field.

Sophomore goalkeeper BRITTANY NYZIO (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) stopped the only shot on her net for the Ravens in her first career shutout.

Franklin Pierce is now 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while the Greyhounds are now 3-8 overall and 1-4 conference.

Franklin Pierce held a 9-7 edge in shots in a scoreless first half, including a 2-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Hounds had a 5-2 edge in penalty corners.

Eight minutes into the second half, sophomore midfielder KIMBERLY JAKSINA (Townsend, MA/North Middlesex) took a free hit from the middle of the field and sent it into the circle. L'Heureux stopped it there, turned and fired a shot which beat the keeper on the right side.

The Ravens finished with a 20-10 shots on goal advantage however the Greyhounds had a 9-5 edge in penalty corners for the game.

Junior goalie DANIELLE LUONGO (Northboro, MA/Algonquin) made eight saves against nine shots for the Greyhounds.

Assumption is next in action when they host Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack College SATURDAY at 4 p.m. Franklin Pierce travels to American International College SATURDAY for a non-conference game at 6:30 p.m.
