American International stops Greyhound field hockey, 2-1, in overtime Northeast-10 Conference opener

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --- Sophomore forward AMANDA MC LEAN (Branford, CT/Branford) scored on a penalty corner in overtime as American International College defeated Assumption College, 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action here THURSDAY at Miller Field.
McLean scored her first goal of the season on an assist from junior back KAT HETERBRING (Java Center, NY/Pioneer Central) at 78:19 as the Yellow Jackets won their second straight game to improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Greyhounds are now 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Junior forward BRITTANY BOYLE (Grafton, MA/Grafton) opened the scoring for the Greyhounds in the first half as she scored a brilliant unassisted goal at 23:45. The Yellow Jackets however came right back as GIN BROMBERG scored her third goal of the season, also unassisted, at 28:19.
Sophomore goalkeeper KIM STEINER (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) made five saves in goal for American International to post the victory, while junior DANIELLE LUONGO (Northboro, MA/Algonquin) made eight saves for the Greyhounds.
American International held a 20-10 advantage in shots on goal and had 16 penalty cornersr to the Greyhounds' 10.
Assumption is next in action WEDNESDAY at Merrimack at 7 p.m., while the Yellow Jackets are at Massachusetts Lowell SATURDAY at 1 p.m.
