Adelphi 2, Assumption 1

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior forward NATASHA PEDZIK (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) scored on a brilliant individual effort with 13:15 left as Adelphi Universty defeated Assumption College, 2-1, in a non-conference field hockey game WEDNESDAY at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

Adelphi is now 1-1 on the season while the Greyhounds are also 1-1 having won their opener Monday, 3-2, over Franklin Pierce.

Adelphi took a 1-0 lead as senior midfielder LAURA STAFFORD (Sag Harbor, NY/Pierson) scored in a flurry in front of the net at the 24:39 mark of the first half.

The Greyhounds tied the game 1-1 as junior forward ALEXI MAXFIELD (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim Regional) scored on a feed from senior forward HILLARY ZYSK (Walpole, MA/Walpole) at 33:01.

The Panthers outshot the Greyhounds, 14-5 and enjoyed an 18-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Sophomore goalkeeper LUCIA VIGLIOTTI (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) had three saves for the Panthers including two on penalty strokes, while junior goalkeeper DANIELLE LUONGO (Northboro, MA/Algonquin) had six saves for the Greyhounds.

Adelphi hosts Bentley University SATURDAY at 4 p.m., while the Greyhounds are next in action SATURDAY at Saint Michael's at 4:30 p.m.
