Greyhounds announce 2010 football schedule

March 12, 2010

WORCESTER, Mass. --- For the first time in Assumption College football history the Greyhounds have scheduled two N.C.A.A. Division I opponents as the department releases the 2010 schedule.

After opening at Millersville, PA University, a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, on Saturday, September 4, the team will initiate its home season with Wagner College (Staten Island, NY), a member of the Division I Northeast Conference, with a 7 p.m. kickoff in the first-ever home Saturday night game in team history.

Then they will play at Northeast-10 Conference rival University of New Haven on Saturday, September 18 before travelling to the Bronx, NY for a second Division I game with Fordham University, a member of the Division I Patriot League.

Special days for the Greyhounds scheduled to date include Fall Homecoming/Family Weekend on Saturday, October 23 when the team will host conference rival Saint Anselm College at 1 p.m. And, on Saturday, November 13, they will host conference rival American International College on Senior Day also with a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Wagner, which finished 6-5 last season, and Fordham (5-6 in 2009) are both offensive-minded teams which averaged 30.7 and 28.5 points respectively.

The Fordham game will be a "going-home" for Greyhound head coach CORY BAILEY, who starred for the Rams under then coach Nick Quataro from 1994-97. He earned first team all-Patriot League honors at center in both 1996 and 1997 and was a pre-season all America selection in several publications prior to the 1997 season. He captained the team in 1997 and was named its Most Valuable Player.

The Greyhounds begin their Spring Practice on Tuesday, March 16 (daily schedule is available on the football web site). The annual BLUE GREY SPRING GAME is slated for Saturday, April 17 at 2 p.m. in the Multi-Sport Stadium.

Top performers returning for the Greyhounds include 2009 Northeast 10 Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Year, senior running back HERBERT WOODARD (Bridgton, NJ/Salem), who rushed for 1,175 yards and 17 touchdowns last year along with senior quarterback ANDREW KUPEC (Wyckoff, NJ/Indian Hills) (1,828 yards, 15 touchdowns) and postgraduate wide receiver DAVID CANNEY (Templeton, MA/Narragansett) (59 receptions, 778 yards, 9 touchdowns).

Assumption College is a charter member of the N.C.A.A.
