Shane Keddy leads Greyhound baseball past St. Rose

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Freshman shortstop SHANE KEDDY (Worcester, MA/Worcester Tech) had three hits including a game-winning RBI single in the seventh inning as Assumption College defeated the College of Saint Rose, 6-5, in Northeast-10 Conference baseball Thursday at Rocheleau Field.
Keddy started a three-run rally in the second inning that put the Greyhounds in front with a single up-the-middle and then drove across two runs in the fifth inning with a 406-foot double to leftcenterfield before finally settling matters in the seventh.
The Hounds got RBI triples from sophomore designated hitter FRANK FLYNN (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) and freshman third baseman NICK NAPOLI (Medford, MA/Boston College High) and a sacrifice fly by senior second baseman MATTHEW JOSE (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) as the Hounds led 3-0 in the second inning.
An RBI triple by senior rightfielder DEREK MARSHALL (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy), an RBI single by junior first baseman GRANT SMITH (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf), and a RBI hitbatsman by junior third baseman RYAN BURKE (Troy, NY/LaSalle Institute) tied the game for the Golden Knights in the fourth inning.
Junior rightfielder BLAKE YOUNGBLOOD (East Freetown, MA/New Bedford) and senior centerfielder DEREK MIGRANTS (Ayer, MA/Ayer) opened the fifth inning with singles. After junior leftfielder MIKE FOLEY (Worcester, MA/Saint John's) sacrificed both into scoring position Keddy delivered a two-run double to make it 5-3 Greyhounds after five innings.
Saint Rose tied the game in the seventh inning as Marshall singled across one run and an infielder grounder by junior centerfielder GARRETT KEENAN (Massapequa, NY/Saint John the Baptist) made it 5-5.
Foley opened the eighth inning with a single up-the-middle and moved to third base on an infield hit by junior first baseman DREW DOMBKOWSKI (Southampton, MA/Hampshire Regional). Keddy got the game winner to rightfield. His three-run double Tuesday in the seventh inning to put the Hounds in front, 5-4, in a game won 8-4.
Senior righthand closer TIM DUPUIS (Suffield, CT/Suffield High) allowed one hit over the final 2.1 innings with two strike outs to improve his record to 3-2. In his two appearances this week vs. Saint Rose, Dupuis pitched five innings with seven strike outs.
The Greyhounds, now 21-18 overall and 9-11 in the conference, are on-the road this weekend with conference doubleheaders at Franklin Pierce Saturday (12 noon) and at New Haven Sunday (11 a.m.). Saint Rose is now 12-26 overall and 7-13 in the conference.
