Bullpen is near perfect as Hound baseball bounces back

ALBANY, NY --- Junior rightfielder BLAKE YOUNGBLOOD (East Freetown, MA/New Bedford), junior leftfielder WALLY DEROSIER (Shrewsbury, MA/Holy Name) and freshman shortstop SHANE KEDDY (Worcester, MA/Worcester Tech) each had three hits to pace a 16-hit attack as Assumption College defeated the College of Saint Rose, 8-4, in the second game of a baseball twi-night doubleheader here Tuesday.

The Greyhound bullpen then slammed the door as junior lefty DAN EVENGELISTA (Shelton, CT/Fairfield Prep) won his fifth game with 4.1 innings of three-hit shutout ball before turning things over to the "ultimate closer" senior righthander TIM DUPUIS (Suffield, CT/Suffield High) who fanned six in 2.2 innings for his ninth save.

GAME ONE: junior lefthander DAVID BATCHELDER (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) and ninth inning relief from senior righthander NATE WARD (Milton, VT/Milton) pitched a three hitter with seven strikeouts to lead Saint Rose past the Greyhounds, 7-1.

Senior rightfielder DEREK MARSHALL (Malone, NY/Franklin) and sophomore second baseman MICHAEL CARBONE (Montreal, QUE/Vincent Massey) had two hits and two RBI each to lead the 12-hit attack. Junior first baseman DREW DOMBKOWSKI (Southampton, MA/Hampshire) had a sacrifice fly to account for the Hounds' run.

GAME TWO: Saint Rose took a 4-0 lead scoring two runs in the second inning as freshman outfielder JUSTIN LEWIS (New Rochelle, NY/Iona Prep) and freshman catcher A.J. CAPONE (Lowville, NY/Lowville) knocked across runs. Junior third baseman RYAN BURKE (Troy, NY/LaSalle) had a two-run single in the third.

The Hounds scored two runs in the fifth inning as Young blood (RBI single) and senior centerfielder DEREK MIGRANTS (Ayer, MA/Ayer) (sacrifice fly) accounted for RBIs.

Keddy ignited the Hounds with a three-run double in the seventh inning to put his team in front (5-4) and sophomore catcher EDDIE MC DONALD (Arlington, MA/Arlington Catholic) smoked a two-run triple and Youngblood hit another triple to key a three-run inning to make it a four run game.

The Greyhounds are now 20-18 overall and 7-11 in the conference, while Saint Rose is 12-25. They host Saint Rose in a single game Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
