WORCESTER, Mass. --- Freshman pinch hitter PETE CREAMER (Groveland, MA/Pentucket) ripped a one-out RBI triple to knock across the game-winner as Assumption College defeated Southern Connecticut State University, 3-2, in Northeast-10 Conference baseball Thursday at Rocheleau Field.
The Greyhounds had lost just Tuesday at Southern Connecticut by the same score with the Owls rallying for three runs in the ninth inning.
Junior pinch hitter WALLY DEROSIER (Shrewsbury, MA/Holy Name) led the ninth with a single to center and scored moments later on Creamer's line drive to the rightcenter field gap.
Southern Connecticut was limited to just one hit, a one-out double by sophomore shortstop RYAN GEFFERT (Plymouth, PA/Wyoming Valley West) in the sixth inning, by Hound sophomore righthander FRANK FLYNN (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian).
The Owls then opened the scoring in the seventh inning. Sophomore designated hitter ERIC SCHLITTER (Guilford, CT/Guilford) reached on a walk and was sacrificed into scoring position by sophomore rightfielder JORDAN HOCKENBERRY (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury). After freshman centerfielder MICHAEL CLEARY (West Boylston, MA/West Boylston) walked the Owls got back-to-back RBI singles by junior leftfielder KYLE ROSADINO (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) and freshman first baseman BRYAN DORSEY (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire).
The Greyhounds responded with two runs of their own in bottom of the inning. Senior centerfielder DEREK MIGRANTS (Ayer, MA/Ayer) led with an infield single and moved to second as junior catcher MIKE FOLEY (Worcester, MA/Saint John's) singled to leftfield. Both runners then advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. An infield error and then a bases-loaded walk to sophomore shortstop TREVOR LAWSON (North Easton, MA/Oliver Ames) tied the game.
Hounds junior reliever DAN EVANGELISTA (Shelton, CT/Fairfield Prep) saved a run with a stellar defensive stab of a line drive through the middle with a runner at third base in the eighth and senior closer TIM DUPUIS (Suffield, CT/Suffield High) earned a shot to get the win getting Dorsey (pop to shortstop) and Geffert (tap to the mound) with two runners in scoring position in the top of the ninth.
Migrants had two hits and now has 232 in his career in his attempt to overtake former teammate Mike Baillargeon '09 (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) who finished his career with 267.
The Greyhounds are next in action this weekend at Stonehill (Saturday) and against Pace at Rocheleau Field in doubleheaders scheduled for 12 noon.
