Assumption 5, Merrimack 1

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior righthander JOE GREEN (Worcester, MA/Saint John's) scattered six hits over 7.2 innings to improve his personal record to 4-0 as Assumption College defeated Merrimack College, 5-1, in a non-conference baseball game Thursday at Rocheleau Field.

Offensively, the Greyhounds were led by freshman third baseman SHANE KEDDY (Worcester, MA/Worcester Tech) who hammered his first collegiate home run for two runs in the fifth inning and sophomore designated hitter FRANK FLYNN (Worcester, MA/Saint Peter-Marian) who delivered a two-run single, his third hit of the game, in the eighth inning. Senior centerfielder DEREK MIGRANTS (Ayer, MA/Ayer) had an RBI double in the fifth inning.

Green was the story of the game as pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the third inning and retired 13 straight batters before the Warriors touched him for their only run of the game in the eighth inning. Senior shortstop BRENDAN PYBURN (Peabody, MABishop Fenwick) doubled to leftcenter with one out in the eighth inning and scored an out later on an RBI single by junior third baseman MIKE DOOLING (Milford, CT/Joseph Foran).

Hounds senior closer TIM DUPUIS (Suffield, CT/Suffield) finished it off retiring the final four batters for his fifth save of the year. Junior leftfielder WALLY DEROSIER (Shrewsbury, MA/Holy Name) has two singles and a walk and Migrants added a single and a double.

The Greyhounds are now 11-8 overall, while Merrimack is 4-2. Assumption hosts Southern New Hampshire Saturday at 12 noon in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader.
