Migrants nears hit record as Hounds split with Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. --- Assumption College senior centerfielder DEREK MIGRANTS (Ayer, MA/Ayer) had six hits as the Greyhounds split a Northeast 10 Conference baseball doubleheader with Saint Anselm College here Saturday.
In the opener junior catcher MATT SUCHAREWICZ (Peabody, MA/Peabody) hammered three home runs and knocked across five runs as Saint Anselm won 9-2. In the second game, Migrants and junior outfielder BLAKE YOUNGBLOOD (East Freetown, MA/New Bedford) hit home runs for the Greyhounds to back a 20-hit attack in a wild 13-11 victory.
GAME ONE: sophomore lefthander JOHN HEALY (Cranston, RI/Cranston East) scattered eight hits over eight innings with six strikeouts for the Hawks.
The Greyhounds took a 2-0 first-inning lead as freshman shortstop SHANE KEDDY (Worcester, MA/Worcester Tech) singled in two runs, however, freshman catcher ROBERT KELLY (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA/Santa Margarita Catholic) singled across one run and Sucharewicz hit a two-run homer to put Saint Anselm in front 3-2 to stay.
Migrants and Keddy each had two hits to lead the Greyhounds nine-hit attack, while Sucharewicz had four hits and five RBI for the Hawks.
GAME TWO: Migrants and Youngblood combined for eight hits and five RBI to lead the Greyhounds, while junior designated hitter WALLY DEROSIER (Shrewsbury, MA/Holy Name) and junior leftfielder MIKE FOLEY (Worcester, MA/Saint John's) each added three hits.
Senior righthander TIM DUPUIS (Suffield, CT/Suffield High) pitched the final 1.2 innings to notch his record-breaking 11th save (he set the previous mark last year with 10).
Migrants with his six hits now has 265 in his career just two short of Mike Baillargeon's career mark set last year at 267. He has now played in more games (190) than any other Greyhound and now holds the record for at bats (743), doubles (52) and total bases (413).
The Greyhounds are now 23-23 overall and 11-16 in the conference, while Saint Anselm is 12-30 and 9-17.
The teams play a non-conference doubleheader Sunday at Rocheleau Field starting at 11 a.m. The Greyhounds will recognize their seniors prior to the games.
