Assumption 7, American International 3
AUBURNDALE, Mass. --- Junior outfielder MIKE FOLEY (Worcester, MA/Saint John's) hit a grand slam home run and senior lefthander MICHAEL COLEBROOK (Leicester, MA/Saint John's) won his second game on the Southern trip as Assumption College defeated American International College, 7-3, in a non-conference game here Wednesday.
Junior rightfielder KYLE MC NIFF (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) had an RBI single to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning before the Greyhounds exploded for seven runs in the fifth and sixth.
The Hounds scored three in the fifth as freshman second baseman SHANE KEDDY (Worcester, MA/Worcester Tech) and freshman third baseman NICK NAPOLI (Medford, MA/Boston College H.S.) had RBI singles and a wild pitch netted the third run. Foley took care of matters in the sixth with one swing.
Freshman catcher DAN FENTON (Agawam, MA/Cathedral) had a two-triple in the Yellow Jacket sixth inning to account for the final.
Colebrook is now the second winingiest lefthander in Greyhounds history with a 16-10 overall record passing Mike Wisniewski '69 (15-4). Only recent Hall of Fame inductee Chris Eggert (1991-94) with a 19-7 career record won more games as a lefthanded pitcher for the Greyhounds. He also tied the career mark of another Hall of Famer, Ed Lavigne '73 with his 33rd start. Junior lefthander DAN EVANGELISTA (Shelton, CT/Fairfield Prep) and freshman righthander MATT METCALF (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) pitched no hit, no-run ball over the final three innings to preserve the win.
Senior first baseman TIM SCAFIDI (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) was the lone Greyhound with two hits, a single and a double.
