Assumption 3, New Haven 0
WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore goalkeeper LAUREN KEATING (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) made just one save but it was enough to post her third shutout of the season leading the Assumption College women's soccer team past the University of New Haven, 3-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup here in the Multi-Sport Stadium.
The Greyhounds have now evened their overall record at 4-4-1 and improved their conference record to 2-3-1 (7 points). New Haven falls to 5-4-1 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
The game was a defensive struggle in the first half as only three shots were attempted (all by the Greyhounds) on goal.
The Greyhounds got on the board at 47:41 as junior midfielder/captain KELLEY DEWALT (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) scored her third goal of the season on a pass from sophomore midfielder SASHA SARMENTO (Somerset, MA/Somerset). DeWalt headed the ball into the net near the post off a free kick from Sarmento. DeWalt is now the Greyhounds' leading scorer with 3-3--9 points. Sarmento and DeWalt are the team leaders with three assists each.
Sophomore forward TINA GILLEN (East Bridgewater, MA/Carver) scored the first insurance goal, her second of the season, to make it 2-0 at 64:19 on a feed from junior forward FALLON MAXWELL (Chicopee, MA/Holyoke Catholic). Maxwell sent Gillen in alone on New Haven freshman goalie KIM TAYLOR (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford).
Last week's Northeast-10 Conference Freshman-of-the-Week, KIRSTEN CHIRICHETTI (Billerica, MA/Billerica) added a third goal, her team leading fourth of the season, unassisted at 74:52. She collected her own rebound and powered the ball past a prone Taylor.
Keating lowered her goals-against average to a stingy 1.28 and improved her save percentage to .774.
The Greyhounds are next in action at Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State University at 7 p.m.
