Forward Jami Strycula, keeper Lauren Keating lead Greyhound women's soccer past Georgian Court, 1-0, opener

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Freshman forward JAMI STRYCULA (Bradford, MA/Haverhill) scored the lone goal on a scramble as Assumption College opened its women's soccer season with a 1-0 non-conference win over Georgian Court (Lakewood, NJ) in the Assumption College Second Annual NIKE-Crowne Plaza Friendlies FRIDAY night at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
In the first friendly, L.I.U.-C.W. Post defeated The College of Saint Rose, 2-1.
In the second day of action of this mixer style tournament on Sunday (August 31) the Greyhounds will play L.I.U.-C.W. Post at 4 p.m. Saint Rose and Georgian Court, NJ will square off in the opener at 1 p.m. at the Multi-Sports Stadium.
In goal Greyhounds' sophomore keeper LAUREN KEATING (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) earned her first career shutout making five saves. Junior midfielder KELLEY DEWALT (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) was a force for the Greyhounds.
The game-winner came at the 64:51 mark as junior forward KORI IMONDI (Warwick, RI/Warwick) soloed in on the junior Lions' goalkeeper LINDSEY HAMMOND (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick). Hammond made the initial save and Strycula finalized the play.
In the opener sophomore midfielder JACKIE SOUSA (North Reading, MA/North Reading) and senior forward MARIA SONNERBORG (Bjarred, Sweden/Bogarskolan) scored in the first 41 minutes for the winning Pioneers.
Saint Rose countered with their lone goal at 49:51 on a feed from senior forward CAITLIN NAYLOR (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point).
C.W. Post sophomore goalkeeper DEANNA ESPOSITO (Sayville, NY/Sayville) made five saves in outdueling Saint Rose junior keeper SHANNON MURPHY (Charlton, MA/Saint Peter-Marian) (2 saves).
The Greyhounds held the territorial advantage outshooting the Lions, 15-7.
