Jami Styrczula's late goal keys women's soccer past American International, 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference action

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Freshman forward JAMI STYRCZULA (Bradford, MA/Haverhill) scored in the 82nd minute to lead Assumption College past American International, 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action here SATURDAY at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

The win improved the Greyhounds to 7-6-2 overall and 4-5 in the Northeast 10 Conference, while American International falls to 8-7-1 overall and 3-7-1 in the conference.

Styrczula scored the game-winner, her fifth goal of the season, off a pass from sophomore forward TINA GILLEN (East Bridgewater, MA/Carver) who cross the box with a pass on a throw in and Styrczula redirected the ball past the right post.

The Greyhounds assumed a 1-0 lead at the 60:01 mark as Gillen redirected a crossing pass from Styrczula past the left post for her sixth goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder KATIE DICIOCCIO (Wappingers Falls, NY/Ketcham) was also credited with an assist on the play.

The Yellow Jackets tied the score at 1-1 as sophomore forward CASSIE ASHWELL (Agawam, MA/Agawam) scored an unassisted goal off a wind aided free kick from 25 yards out.

The Yellow Jackets enjoyed a slight 8-7 advantage in shots on goal however the Greyhounds had all four corner kicks in the match.

Sophomore goalkeeper LAUREN KEATING (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) made four saves to post the victory for the Greyhounds, while junior goalkeeper KARA POTTS (Westfield, MA/Westfield) did not have a save.

The Greyhounds play next at Merrimack College (6;30 p.m.), while American International travels to Southern Connecticut (7 p.m.) in Northeast-10 Conference action Tuesday.
