Jami Styrczula leads Greyhound women's soccer past Adelphi, 3-2

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Freshman forward JAMI STYRCZULA (Bradford, MA/Haverhill) (PICTURED RIGHT) had a goal and an assist to lead the Assumption College women's soccer team past Adelphi University, 3-2, in a non conference game here SATURDAY in the Multi-Sport Stadium.
The Greyhounds bolted to a 2-0 halftime advantage en route to improving their overall record to 3-4. Adelphi is now 3-3 overall.
Assumption opened the scoring at 8:18 as freshman forward KIRSTEN CHIRICHETTI (Billerica, MA/Billerica) scored her third goal of the season on a feed from Styrczula. She crossed the ball in front of the net and Chirichetti redirected it past a prone Adelphi freshman goalkeeper DOROTHY CONNOLLY (Bethpage, NY/Long Island Lutheran).
At 23:07 the Greyhounds increased the lead to 2-0 as junior midfielder/captain KELLEY DEWALT (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) scored on a deflection of a corner kick.
The Panthers got on the board at 65:16 as sophomore forward KIM VOLINSKI (Greenport, NY/Greenport) banged home a rebound in front of Hounds' sophomore netminder LAUREN KEATING (Nashua, NH/Nashua North). Junior forward CAITLIN MORRISON (Beacon, NY/Beacon) assisted on the play.
Styrczula gave the Greyhounds a 3-1 advantage at 85:13 scoring an unassisted goal after collecting a rebound in front of the net. She fired a low shot past the far post.
Adelphi made it a one-goal game, 3-2, with under two minutes left scoring an unassisted goal on a header at 88:42.
The Greyhounds outshot Adelphi, 15-8, and held a slight 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Keating posted the win in goal for the Greyhounds making just one save, while Connolly made three saves for Adelphi.
The Greyhounds are next in action Tuesday hosting Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Rose at 7 p.m. in the Multi-Sport Stadium.
