WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior guard/captain BETHANY PLASSKI (Fall River, MA/Durfee) scored all 17 of her points in the second half including a perfect eight-for-eight at the free throw line to lead Assumption College past the College of Saint Rose, 67-57, in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action WEDNESDAY night in the Laska Gym.
Junior forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) (14 points), junior guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret Center, CT/Woodstock Academy) (12 points, 7 rebounds) and senior guard/captain TRISH CARDNER (North Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth) (season-high 9 assists, 6 rebounds) played well in support roles for the Greyhounds. The Greyhounds made 12-of-13 free throws and also drilled a season-best nine three-pointers.
Saint Rose senior guard DANA BROWN (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) paced all scorers with 19 points, while senior forward ASHLEY ANDERSON (Portland, ME/Portland) (17 points) paced the Golden Knights.
After the Knights LYNSEY TIMBROUCK (Kingston, NY/Kingston) made a top-of-the-circle three-pointer to make it a one-point game, 19-18, with 11:10 left in the half, the Greyhounds went on a 12-4 mini-spurt to move to a nine-point (31-22) advantage.
Lupien started with a corner three-pointer from Gardner and then Parker scored inside on a feed from freshman guard BRITTANY COHEN (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt). Parker then converted two free throws before Anderson cashed a layin to make it 26-20. Sophomore forward PAM MOBLEY (Worcester, MA/Doherty) scored inside from Plasski, Anderson countered with a layin at the other end and then freshman forward KELLY MEREDITH (Franklin, MA/Franklin) drilled a three-pointer to make it 31-22.
A 7-3 run to start the second half built the lead to 12 points (46-34). Sophomore forward MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline Academy) opened with a long three-pointer off a Plasski feed before sophomore guard AMY VOELKEL (Mohegan Lake, NY/Lakeland) countered with one for the Knights.
Lupien scored on a move inside from Griffiths and Plasski made two free throws to make it 46-34.
The game featured the top defensive team in the Northeast-10 Conference (Greyhound opponents average just 55.1 points) and the second-leading offensive team (Saint Rose averages 73.0 points).
It now sets up a battle for first place Saturday as the Greyhounds, now 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference, will travel to Stonehill College (also 6-1, 4-1) in the featured game of the conference schedule.
