EASTON, Mass. --- Junior forward KELSEY SIMONDS (Middleboro, MA/Cardinal Spellman) and senior guard BETHANY TIGHE (North Easton, MA/Oliver Ames) each scored 20 points and combined for 20 rebounds leading Stonehill College past Assumption College, 70-58, in a battle of first-place teams in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball SATURDAY at the Merkert Gymnasium.

The Greyhounds had four double-figure scorers including sophomore forward MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline Academy) (14 points, 9 rebounds), junior forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) (13 points), senior guard/captain BETHANY PLASSKI(Fall River, MA/Durfee) (11 points, 5 assists) and freshman guard BRITTANY COHEN (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) (11 points).

Stonehill led by three points, 36-33, at the halftime break as Griffiths drilled a three-pointer with five seconds left. The Skyhawks however went on a 14-2 run to start the second half to take control of the game.

Tighe started the rally with a layin off her own offensive rebounds and Griffiths countered at the other end with a wing jumper. Stonehill then spurted 12-0 as sophomore guards KRISTEN MC WHIRTER (Melvin Village, NH/New Hampton Prep) and EMILY ROUSSEAU (Biddeford, ME/Biddeford) each contributed top-of-the-circle three-pointers.

The Greyhounds made things interesting as Cohen made a layup off the fastbreak, junior guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret Center, CT/Woodstock Academy) rebounded her own miss and Cohen made a long three-pointer to cut the deficit to 54-50 with 9:05 remaining.

Assumption is now 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the conference, while Stonehill improves to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
