Bethany Plasski, Molly Griffiths lead undefeated Greyhounds past Saint Michael's, 69-61, in Northeast-10 women's basketball

Assumption 69, Saint Michael's 61

COLCHESTER, Vt. --- Senior guard/captain BETHANY PLASSKI (Fall River, MA/Durfee) scored 18 points to lead all scorer as undefeated Assumption College won its fifth straight, 69-61, over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball TUESDAY at the Ross Sports Center.

The Greyhounds, ranked 24th in the latest USAToday/ESPN National Division II poll, led all the way and also got solid support performances from junior forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) (16 points, 9 rebounds), sophomore forward MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline Academy) (12 points, 15 rebounds) and freshman forward KELLY MEREDITH (Franklin, MA/Franklin) (10 points).


After Saint Michael's crept within three points, 22-19, on a pair of free throws by freshman guard COREEN HENNESSY (Chatlon, NH/Fryeburg Academy) with 10:10 left in the half, the Greyhounds went on an 11-0 run.

Junior guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret Center, CT/Woodstock Academy) hit a wing jumper on a feed from senior point guard TRISH GARDNER (North Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth) followed by a free throws by Lupien and two more by Plasski. Parker converted a Plasski feed inside, Gardner connected on a pair of free throws and Plasski finished the run with a layin to make it 33-19 with 7:05 remaining.

A layin by Hennessy rallied the Purple Knights to within five points (33 28) however Parker made one of two on a one-and-one opportunity and and then made a layup from Griffiths to made it an eight-point game at the halftime break, 36-28.

The Knights crawled back into contention as senior center ANNA FLORENT (Fort Wayne, IN/Snider) made a free throw with 13:14 left to cut the gap to two points, 43-41.

Parker responded with a nice move inside off a Lupien feed, Plasski scored inside on a layin, Meredith scored off a Plasski feed in the paint to make it 49-41 in just two minutes.

Junior guard ALEXIS KELLER (Harrington Park, NJ/Old Tappan) led the Knights with 15 points, while Forent added 14 points and sophomore forward LOGAN PINTKA (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) had 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Greyhounds are next in action Sunday when the travel to Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne College for a 1 p.m. tapoff.
