MANCHESTER, NH --- Junior forward JULIA HOUGHTALING (Franconia, NH/New Hampton) scored a game-high 22 points with eight rebounds leading four double-figure scorers as Southern New Hampshire University defeated Assumption College, 76-61, in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action here SATURDAY at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
The loss dropped the Greyhounds to 15-11 overall and 13-8 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while Southern New Hampshire improved to 16 10 and 11-10. The Hounds are now situated in fifth-place a game behind Stonehill, American International and Bentley all tied for second-place at 14 7. The top four teams will draw first-round byes in the upcoming conference playoffs, while fifth-place through eighth-place teams host ninth through 12th-place finishers in first-round games on March 1. The Hounds finish their regular-season TUESDAY in the Laska Gym hosting Bentley University at 5:30 p.m.
Senior guard/captain TRISH GARDNER (North Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth) led the Greyhounds with 11 points, four assists and three steals, while senior guard BETHANY PLASSKI (Fall River, MA/Durfee) (10 points) and junior guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret Center, CT/Woodstock) (10 points) both reached double figures.
Meanwhile for Southern New Hampshire freshman guard CHRISTINE DUFFY (South Boston, MA/Archbishop Williams) (14 points, five assists), senior guard STEPHANIE HOUGHTON (Manchester, NH/Manchester West) (13 points) and junior forward ASHARA CARRINGTON (Marblehead, MA/Marblehead) (12 points, 11 rebounds) played well in support roles.
Southern New Hampshire led 41-25 at halftime after making 15-of-15 attempts at the free throw line.
