Bethany Plasski, Molly Griffiths lead Greyhound women's basketball past UMass Lowell, 65-54, in Northeast-10 action

LOWELL, Mass. --- Senior guard/captain BETHANY PLASSKI (Fall River, MA/Durfee) scored a game-high 21 points, making seven-of-nine shots from the floor, as Assumption College defeated the University of Massachusetts Lowell, 65-54, in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball action TUESDAY at the Costello Athletic Center.

The victory improved the Greyhounds overall record to 7-2 and 5-2 in the conference which ties them with American International College for second place behind Stonehill College (6-1). Massachusetts Lowell is now 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference.


Sophomore forward MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline Academy) contributed 13 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots and freshman guard BRITTANY COHEN (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) added nine points, four assists in her first career start.

Senior center RIVITAL CARMON (Bat-Yam, Israel/Kiryat-Sharet) led the River Hawks with a double-double 15 points, 12 rebounds, while junior guard RAHSHALA VALENTINE (Cincinnati, OH/Ursuline Academy) added 13 points.

The Greyhounds sped to a 33-22 first-half advantage as Plasski led the way with 15 points on four-for-four floor accuracy.

With the score 8-8 following a senior forward SHAINA BERRY (Friendswood, TX/Friendswood) lay in the Greyhounds ran a 12-2 mini-spurt to take control.

Junior guard MAEGAN COOK (Braintree, MA/Braintree) made a pair of fre throws and then Griffiths drilled a lane jumper off a steal and feed from Plasski and then Griffiths made the second of a two-shot foul opportunity before Carmon made an inside move for the River Hawks to make it 13-10.

Cohen then found Plasski for a layin and 30 seconds later for a three-pointer. Plasski then made two free throws for a 20-10 advantage. A three-pointer by senior guard/captain TRISH GARDNER (North Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth) with 1:11 left made it an 11-point game at the break.

Two free throws and an inside move by Valentine cout the gap to 58-54 with 1:57 left. Plasski then his jumper and Gardner made a pair of free throws, Cohen made one of two free throws and Griffiths made two more to account for the final.

The Greyhounds are now off for first-semester final exams and are next in action at Dowling College Saturday, December 20 and at Adelphi, December 29.
