WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior forward COLLETTE JOSEY (Boston, MA/Framingham) scored a game-high 25 points with 11 rebounds and made 13-of-13 attempts from the free throw line as Bentley University defeated Assumption College, 71-60, in a Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball game TUESDAY night in the Laska Gym.
The Greyhounds were led by a quartet of double-figure scorers. Senior guard/captain BETHANY PLASSKI (Fall River, MA/Durfee) (13 points), junior forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) (13 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocked shots), junior guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret Center, CT/Woodstock Academy) (11 points) and senior guard captain TRISH GARDNER (North Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth) (10 points, 6 assists, 2 steals). Plasski set the Greyhounds mark for career games played with 116.
Assumption saluted the two senior members of the team before the game as Plasski and Gardner received "Senior Medallions" in a special presentation.
The Greyhounds, now 15-12 overall and 13-9 in the conference, finished sixth in the league standings and open play in the Northeast-10 playoffs SUNDAY hosting the University of New Haven at 2 p.m. in the Laska Gym. Bentley finished its regular-season at 19-10 overall and 15-7 in the conference. The Falcons are seeded third and will draw a first-round bye however would host the winner of the Assumption-New Haven clash TUESDAY at 7 p.m. in a quarterfinal match.
The Greyhounds sped to a 31-28 first-half advantage as Lupien scored all 11 of her points to pave the way. Junior guard AMANDA SHEEHY (Linden, NJ/Roselle Catholic) made back-to-back three-pointers and Gardner followed with another as the Greyhounds forged from seven points behind to tie the game 25-25 with 3:02 left. Lupien then cashed two free throws and made back-to back inside moves to make it a six-point advantage before freshman guard MEGHAN THOMANN (Andover, MA/Andover) made a three-pointer to cut the gap to three at the break.
The Greyhounds led by eight points, 41-33, with 16:54 left in the game after a Plasski jumper off-the-break before the Falcons came to life. Senior guard ANGELA MANFREDI (Burton, OH/Berkshire) made a three-pointer with 13:29 to give Bentley the lead for good at 42-41.
