Women's basketball stops Holy Cross in exhibition; opens regular-season this weekend

WORCESTER, MA-- Assumption College used a balanced scoring attack and gritty defense to claim victory over crosstown rival Holy Cross, 67-54, in an exhibition women's basketball game to benefit the Mercy Center Tuesday at the Hart Center.
Sophomore/forward MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline Academy) led the Greyhounds with 15 points and seven rebounds. Senior captain/point guard TRISH GARDNER(Dartmouth/MA) contributed a solid performance with three points, six rebounds, 10 assists and three steals, while senior captain/guard BETHANY PLASSKI (Fall River/Dufree) added 12 points.
Despite dismal first-half shooting, the Greyhounds came out ready to go in the second half shooting 16-of-30 for 53.3 percent and four-of-eight from behind the arc. The Greyhounds took the lead at 14:15 on a Griffiths layup and never looked back. Freshman/forward KELLY MEREDITH (Franklin, MA/Franklin) had a strong performance off-the-bench scoring nine points and collecting a game-high eight rebounds.
Sophomore BRIANA MC FADDEN (Wheaton, MD/Good Counsel) led the Holy Cross offense with 12 points and BETHANY O'DELL (Lincoln, RI/Lincoln) chipped in with 10.
The Greyhounds open their regular-season Saturday against Bloomfield, NJ College in the Stonehill College Mixer at 1 pm.
