Greyhound softball sweeps UMass Lowell behind Casey Halajian, Ashley Bilodeau and Jennifer Lowrey

LOWELL, Mass. --- Sophomore third baseman ASHLEY BILODEAU (Manchester, CT/East Catholic) hammered her first career grand slam home run to highlight a 12-hit attack as Assumption College defeated the University of Massachusetts Lowell, 14-8, in first game of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader SATURDAY at River View Field.

In the second game freshman righthander JENNIFER LOWREY (Assonet, MA/Apponequet Regional) pitched a three-hitter as the Greyhounds prevailed 3-0. Bilodeau added two more hits to pace the offense.

Sophomore shortstop MARISSA PALUMBO (Worcester, MA/Holy Name), junior outfielder MEGHAN DIVITTO (Milford, MA/Milford), sophomore first baseman AMY GORDON (Seekonk, MA/Bishop Feehan) and Bilodeau all had two hits for the Hounds in game one.

Freshman righthander CASEY HALAJIAN (Quincy, MA/Archbishop Williams) pitched six strong innings in relief to notch her first collegiate victory.

The Greyhounds scored five runs in the second, five more in the fifth and four more in the seventh inning.

Bilodeau's grand slam highlighted the second inning rally as the River Hawks had scored seven in the top of the inning. Palumbo singled across two runs in the fifth inning.

Freshman designated hitter CAITLYN CLARY (Belmont, MA/Belmont) knocked the first run across with a sacrifice fly in the second inning, a wild pitch netted a second run in the fourth inning and Palumbo doubled in a second run in the seventh.

The Greyhounds are now 8-10 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Massachusetts Lowell falls to 1-13-1 and 0-3-1.

The Hounds hosts Merrimack College SUNDAY in another conference doubleheader.
