Lowrey, Bilodeau help softball past No. 25 LeMoyne in DH split

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Freshman rightander JENNIFER LOWREY (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) pitched a seven-hitter and struck out eight as Assumption College defeated Le Moyne College, the 25th ranked team in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association national poll, 3-2, in the firs game of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader THURSDAY at Marois Field.

The Greyhounds scored the game-winner in the seventh inning as sophomore third baseman ASHLEY BILODEAU (Manchester, CT/East Catholic) laced an RBI single to left scoring sophomore rightfielder BERNADETTE FUENTES (Hicksville, NY/Holy Trinity). Fuentes led with a single to left moved to second on a sacrifice by sophomore shortstop MARISSA PALUMBO (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) and on to third as senior second baseman/captain MELISSA BOWMAN (West Hartford, CT/Conard) singled into centerfield.

Le Moyne behind the four-hit shutout pitching of senior righthander JENNIFER FARRELLY (Latham, NY/Shaker) won game two, 4 0. Freshman shortstop BARBARA SHEA (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) knocked in two runs with an RBI single in the first inning and a sacrifice fly in the seventh,

In the opener the Greyhounds scored two runs in the third inning on RBI singles by Palumbo and Bilodeau. Le Moyne scored in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Shea tied the game in the top of the seventh on an error.

Assumption, now 11-13 overall and 5-3 in the conference hosts Northeast-10 Conference rival American International Saturday at 12 noon. Le Moyne is now 17-7 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
