Brandon Sullivan keys Greyhound men's soccer 2-2 overtime tie with Southern Connecticut

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore goalkeeper BRANDON SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/Saint Dominic) made 11 saves to backbone the Assumption College defense as the Greyhounds earned a 2-2 men's soccer tie with Southern Connecticut State University TUESDAY night at the Multi Sport Stadium.


The Greyhounds improved the conference record to 3-0-3 as one of three teams still unbeaten in regular-season play in the league. The team has 12 points just four points behind Southern New Hampshire and Merrimack in the conference playoff chase. The top eight teams will square off November 2, 5 and 8 for the conference postseason championship and automatic N.C.A.A. regional berth.

Assumption is 4-2-3 overall, while Southern Connecticut is now 4-4-3 and 3-1-3 in the conference.

The Greyhounds moved to a 2-0 lead in the first 23:06. Sophomore forward STEPHEN BLAISDELL (Peabody, MA/Bishop Fenwick) opened the scoring with a shot to the far post off a defensive deflection at 16:16. Freshman forward ANDREW KROH (Mount Luarel, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep) made it 2-0 soloing in on the goalkeeper and beating him with a 10-footer inside the left goalpost.

Southern Connecticut senior defender ANCIL FARRIER (Los Bajos, Trinidad/Naparima) scored off a penalty kick at 40:36 and then sophomore midfielder PAUL TEMPLETON (Salcoats, Scotland/Saint Andrew's) tied it with just 3:47 left in the game.

Southern Connecticut outshot the Greyhounds 20-12 overall and held a 5-2 advantage in the overtime periods. The Owls also had a slim 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. Owls freshman goalie ANDREW ESPOSITO (East Haven, CT/East Haven) made six saves.

The Greyhounds are next in action Wednesday, October 8 when they travel to first-place Southern New Hampshire University at 7 p.m.

GREYHOUND NOTES: sophomore forward STEPHEN BLAISDELL (Peabody, MA/Bishop Fenwick) is the Hounds' leading scorer at 5-1-11 points . . . sophomore goalkeeper BRANDON SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/Saint Dominic) lowered his goals-against average to a gaudy 1.65 with a .750 save percentage . . . this was the fourth overtime game for the Greyhounds and second straight . . . the tie is only the second time in the series that the Owls have not prevailed . . . the Greyhounds won 2-1 in overtime to snap an Owl 52-game win streak in 2000 . . .
