Fifth-ranked Southern New Hampshire stops Greyhound men's soccer, 3-0

MANCHESTER, NH - Southern New Hampshire University, ranked No. 5 in the latest NSCAA national poll and first in the region, defeated Assumption College, 3-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer game here WEDNESDAY night at Larkin Field.
The Penmen extended their unbeaten streak to 10 straight games over which they have posted an 8-0-2 record. They improved their overall record to 10-1-2 and remained undefeated in conference play at 6-0-2. The team posted its 10th shutout of the season.
The Greyhounds are now 4-3-3 overall and suffered their first conference defeat as their record falls to 3-1-3.
The Penman opened the scoring quickly at 2:07 of the first half as freshman forward JAYME KAPINOS (Ludlow, MA/Avon Old Farms) found junior forward PAULSON EDUM (Calabar, Nigeria) in the box area and Edum delivered a low line drive past the left post.
Southern New Hampshire would scored two insurance goals in the second half.
Just 8:12 into the period junior midfielder KEVIN WOODS (Alyth, Scotland) fired a shot in the upper right corner off a free kick. Senior defender RANSFORD SHAND (Brooklyn, NY/Herkimer) closed out the scoring with a solo effort off a turnover at 71:11.
Senior goalkeeper SEAN LAMBERT (Rehoboth/Dighton Rehoboth) (76:14, 2 saves) and freshman JOEY KAPINOS (Ludlow, MA/Avon Old Farms) (13:46, 0 saves) combined on the shutout. Sophomore BRANDON SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/Saint Dominic) made five stops in 76:14, while sophomore BRENDAN MC CANN (Pepperell, MA/North Middlesex) made no saves over the final 13:46.
Southern New Hampshire outshot the Greyhounds, 19-3.
Assumption is next in action, also in New Hampshire, when they travel to Franklin Pierce University, ranked ninth in the region, Saturday at 7 p.m. Southern New Hampshire hosts No. 14 Le Moyne at 1 p.m. Saturday.
