Blaisdell's two goals lead men's soccer past New Haven, 2-1, in Northeast-10 action

WEST HAVEN, Conn. --- Sophomore forward STEPHEN BLAISDELL (Peabody, MA/Bishop Fenwick) scored both goals as Assumption College defeated the University of New Haven, 2-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer game here MONDAY.

Blaisdell, who leads the Greyhounds with seven goals, opened the scoring in the first half in the 39th minute heading in a cross pass by senior forward PAUL MURPHY (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug). Assumption led 1-0 at the halftime break.


New Haven sophomore midfielder NICK DIONE (Meriden, CT/Platt) tied the game at 66:36 popping in a loose ball off a corner kick.

However, just five minutes later Blasidell struck again with an unassisted blast from about 18 feet in front for the game-winner.

Sophomore goalkeeper BRANDON SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/Saint Dominic) posted five saves for the win, while freshman keeper JONATHAN CREEM (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck) had four saves for the Chargers.

The Greyhounds had a slight 17-15 edge in shots, while New Haven enjoyed a substantial 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

Assumption is now 5-4-3 overall and 4-2-3 in the conference. They host Massachusetts Lowell Wednesday at 7 p.m. in another conference match. They are currently in sixth place in the standings with 15 points---the top eight advance to the postseason playoff. New Haven is now 3-10-0 overall and 2-6-0 in their first year in the Northeast-10 Conference. They host Franklin Pierce University Saturday at 1 p.m.
