Assumption, Merrimack play to scoreless overtime tie in key Northeast-10 men's soccer action

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore goalkeeper BRANDON SULLIVAN (Halesite, NY/Saint Dominic's) made six saves as Assumption College battled to a 0-0 double overtime tie with Northeast-10 Conference rival Merrimack College in men's soccer here WEDNESDAY in the Multi-Sport Stadium.
Merrimack senior goalkeeper ROB PEDRA (South Hamilton, MA/Hamilton-Wenham) made just one save for the Warriors. Merrimack outshot the Greyhounds 12-6 however Assumption had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The third shutout of the season for Sullivan lowered his goals against average to 1.68.
The tie raised the Greyhounds conference record to 4-3-4 (16 points) and their overall mark to 5-5-5, while Merrimack is now 6-3-2 (20 points) in the conference and 9-3-3 overall. The Warriors are ranked No. 8 in the East Regional N.C.A.A. Division II poll this week.
The Northeast-10 Conference playoffs are scheduled for November 2, 5 and 8 with the top eight teams earning the right to compete for the automatic conference N.C.A.A. regional berth. At the present the Greyhounds are in seventh place two point ahead of Saint Anselm and four points ahead of Saint Michael's---the two teams they will finish their regular season schedule Saturday (at Saint Michael's, 3:30 p.m.) and Tuesday (host Saint Anselm, 7 p.m.).
