Greyhounds defeat Pace, 8-6, in Northeast-10 match

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore attack JOHN MURPHY (Walpole, MA/Walpole) scored two goals and added an assist and freshman attack WILL LANGEVIN (Concord, MA/Concord Carlisle) added two goals as Assumption College defeated Pace University, 8 5, in Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse TUESDAY at the Multi-Sports Stadium.
The Greyhounds have now won three straight games and improved to 6-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference. Pace is now 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
After freshman midfielder KEVIN KADLICK (Boston, MA/Catholic Memorial) opened the scoring for the setters on a unassisted effort with 12:13 left in the first period Hounds junior attack KEVIN KLASKIN (Norfolk, MA/Xaverian) tied the score on a feed from sophomore attack GAETANO GIAMBROCCO (Leominster, MA/Saint Bernard's) with 5:18 left.
Klaskin now has 45 goals, 53 assists in his career leaivng him two points short of the 100-point plateau. He will become merely the third Greyhonds to reach that level behind Justin Cecil (1993, 95-96) (91-61--152) and Dave Ducey (1981-84) (62-38--100).
Setter junior midfielder JOE CLARK (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) and the Greyhounds' Langevin traded goals as the teams finished 2-2 after a period.
Murphy, Langevin and freshman attack TIM ROY (Avon, CT/Avon) scored unanswered goals in the second period as the Greyhounds built a three-goal, 5-2, advantage at the half.
Pace crept back into the game at 6-5 as senior midfielder JAKE SHEPPARD (Melbourne, Australia/Brunswick East) scored back-to back goals.
Senior attack KEVIN JURGENS (Needham, MA/Needham) and freshman midfielder TOM GUIDO (Manorville, NY/Eastport South Manor) then scored twice within 1:07 to build the lead back to three at 8-5 with 7:14 remaining. Jurgens moved into 16th place on the Hounds' career list with 57-22--79 points.
Junior goalie DAN SHEA (Wrentham, MA/King Philip) made 13 saves for the Greyhounds, while senior TIMOTHY MATHEIS (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) made 15 saves for Pace. Assumption outshot the Setters, 37-29 and held a 19-11 edge in ground balls. Freshman midfielder CHRIS NOYES (Tewksbury, MA/Central Catholic) led the Hounds with five ground balls.
The Hounds are next in action when they travel to Southern New Hampshire University WEDNESDAY (April 15) at 7 p.m.
