Savoy Fraine leads Greyhounds past Saint Michael's, 76-60, in Northeast-10 action

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Sophomore center SAVOY FRAINE (Grenada Hills, CA/Grenada Hills) scored 15 points to lead four double-figure scorers as Assumption College defeated Saint Michael's College, 76-60, in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action THURSDAY night in the Laska Gym.
The Greyhounds are now 7-0 at home this season and have won 11 straight over the last two years in the Laska Gym.
Postgraduate forward GREG TWOMEY (Groton, MA/Groton Dunstable) added 13 points and nine rebounds, senior forward/captain PATRICK SHEA (Salem, MA/Salem) added a double-double 12 points and 10 rebounds and sophomore forward TOBIN HAASE (Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield) had 10 points in support roles.
Freshman guard ALEX BERTHIAUME (Springfield, MA/Cathedral) scored a game-high 16 points including three three-pointers to lead the Purple Knights, while sophomore guard NATE BIRR (Burnsville, MN/Saint Thomas Academy) (12 points), senior forward MIKE IOLA (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Regional) (10 points) and freshman forward TYLER SCHILLING (Excelsior, MN/Minnetonka) added a double-double 10 points and game-high 13 rebounds.
The Greyhounds' defense was a prime factor in the outcome as they held Saint Michael's to a .265 floor accuracy in the second half as the Purple Knights converted just nine-of-34 attempts including just two-of-13 from three-point range.
Fraine had nine points as the Greyhounds sped to a 41-33 lead at the halftime break.
Assumption improves to 13-6 overall and 11-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Greyhounds are now just a half game behind Stonehill, Merrimack, UMass Lowell and Bentley, all of whom have 11-3 conference records. They play at conference rival Saint Anselm SATURDAY at 3:30 p.m.
Saint Michael's is now 6-11 overall and 4-11 in the conference. The Knights host American International College Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
