Patrick Shea selected to play in N.A.B.C./N.C.A.A. Division II National All-Star Game

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --- Senior guard/captain PATRICK SHEA (Salem, MA/Salem) has been named to the 2009 N.A.B.C./N.C.A.A. Division II East All-Star Team. The all-star game is scheduled to be played at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame next Friday (March 27) at 7 p.m.
The team will also be recognized during halftime of the N.C.A.A. Division II national semifinals Thursday at the MassMutual Center also in Springfield.
Shea is the second Greyhound in as many seasons to be so honored following forward Corey Diethorn (Pittsburgh, MA/Sewickley).
One of the more versatile players on the squad, Shea was a catalyst as the Greyhounds finished their second straight 20-win season (23-10), won the Northeast-10 Conference playoff championship and earned the program's 26th N.C.A.A. tournament berth.
He averaged 9.5 points and 6.2 rebounds and also finished with 114 assists (second on the team), 14 blocked shots (second on the team) and shot .725 (79-for-109) at the free throw line (also second on team). He is generally credited with being the top defender on the squad by head coach SERGE DEBARI .
He had 17 double-figure scoring games including a season-high 18 points at Bridgeport (November 16, 2008), at Saint Anselm (January 31, 2009) and against Bentley (February 24, 2009) on Senior Night as the Greyhounds stopped the No. 13 ranked Falcons, 79-78. He was also named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll five times this season.
He finished his career with 982 points, 665 rebounds and 389 assists in 117 games.
He is the son of James and Julie Shea of Salem. His uncle Tim is the women's basketball coach at Salem State College and a former Greyhound standout.
