Western New England stops Ice Dogs, 4-2, in non-conference hockey game

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --- Senior forward MIKE MAJESTY (Chicago, IL) scored two goals as Western New England College defeated Assumption College, 4-2, in a non-conference men's hockey game TUESDAY at the Smead Arena.
The Ice Dogs took a 1-0 as freshman forward DENNIS SILVIO (Beverly, MA/Beverly) scored his first college goal at 12:16 of the opening period.
Western New England College dominated play in the second period scoring three goals, two on the power play, while holding the visitors to only two shots. Senior center HANK LEVIN (Lido Beach, NY) tied the game at 2:29 before Majesty added another on the power play at 9:28.
Sophomore forward VIN WEYEL (North Haven, CT) gave the Golden Bears a two-goal advantage on another power play just 2:54 later. And Western New England took a 4-1 lead when Majesty scored an unassisted goal at 11:18 of the third period.
Ice Dog sophomore forward PATRICK FITZGIBBONS (Holliston, MA/Saint John's) notched the final goal with 46 second remaining in the game. Sophomore defenseman MARC LABB (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) and Silvio assisted on the play.
Junior goalkeeper DENNIS HARRSCH (Morrisonville, NY) stopped 16 shots for the Golden Bears. Freshman STEVE DI DOMENICO (Lowell, MA/Tilton, NH) started his first game in goal for the Ice Dogs andd finished with 16 saves in 40 minutes, while junior JAMIE DI GIULIO (Peabody, MA/Tilton, NH) played the final period and made eight saves.
Assumption falls to 1-3 overall, while Western New England is now 1-4.
The Ice Dogs are next in action Thursday at Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 Conference game at 7:30 p.m.
