UMass Dartmouth skates past Ice Dogs, 5-2, in non-conference action

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. --- Sophomore forward BILLY MANNING (Stoughton, MA) scored the game-winning goal midway through the second period as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth defeated Assumption College, 5-2, in a non-conference ice hockey game SATURDAY in the Hetland Memorial Arena.

Manning's goal broke a 2-2 tie at 10:18 of the second period. He took a pass from his brother, freshman forward SHAWN MANNING (Stoughton, MA) and backhanded a shot past Greyhounds' freshman goalkeeper STEVE DI DOMENICO (Lowell, MA/Tilton School).

Freshman forward PAT O'KANE (Hollis, NH/Williston Northampton) had tied the score for the Ice Dogs 24 seconds before Manning scored. O'Kane took a cross-crease pass from freshman center TAYLOR LARSEN (Blackstone, MA/Blackstone-Millville) and fired a shot past Corsairs' junior goaltender JON DRYJOWICZ-BUREK (Ludlow, MA).

UMass Dartmouth added two insurance goals early in the third period to put the game away. Sophomore defenseman MICKEY DUDLEY (Douglas, MA) fired home a slap shot from the point 30 seconds into the period. Senior forwards CHRIS SHORE (West Haven, CT/Winchendon Academy) and NICK PAQUIN (Warwick, RI/Winchendon Academy) assisted. Dudley's brother, freshman forward ROB DUDLEY (Douglas, MA/Middlesex School) scored his first goal of the season less than three minutes later (3:28).

The Corsairs took a 2-0 lead in the first period. Senior defenseman ERIC QUINLAN (Saugus, MA/Avon Old Farms) knocked in a rebound at 7:52, with Shore and Paquin assisting. Freshman forward MIKE OWENS (South Boston, MA) made it 2-0 at 11:49 on the power play.

Sophomore forward MICHAEL DWYER (Somerville, MA/Worcester Academy) scored for the Ice Dogs at 17:36, assisted by freshman forward JOE FRASSO (Winthrop, MA/Winthrop) and junior forward BEN KIRTLAND (Plymouth, MA/Holderness).

UMass Dartmouth outshot the Greyhounds, 34-20. Dryjowicz-Burek made 18 saves for the Corsairs, while DiDomenico and junior JAMIE DI GIULIO (Peabody, MA/Tilton School) combined for 29 saves for Assumption.

The Corsairs improved to 7-4-1, while the Greyhounds dropped to 2-9-2. UMass Dartmouth returns to action when they visit Worcester State Tuesday, while Assumption hosts Suffolk Thursday.
