Nick Blanchette posts first career shutout with 47 saves in 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference win over Stonehill

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Freshman goalkeeper NICK BLANCHETTE (Stuart, FL/Worcester Academy) made 47 saves to post his first career shutout as Assumption College defeated Stonehill College, 3-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference men's ice hockey game SATURDAY at the Buffone Rink.

Preceeding the game the Greyhound Alumni played their Annual Alumni Game attracting nearly 50 former Ice Dog standouts.

The shutout is the first for the Greyhounds in 50 games dating back to February 15, 2007. JAMIE DI GIULIO (Peabody, MA/Tilton, NH) made 29 saves that day to blank Worcester State (5-0). Blanchette now owns an impressive .920 save percentage (first in the Northeast-10 Conference) and lowered his goals-against average to an impressive 3.47 (second in the Northeast-10 Conference) for his 519 minutes of work.

Freshman forward TAYLOR LARSEN (Blackstone, MA/Worcester Academy) opened the scoring for the Greyhounds just 3:26 into the first period converting a pass from sophomore forward PATRICK FITZGIBBONS (Holliston, MA/Saint John's). It was his team-leading ninth goal of the season. He is the fourth-leading scorer in the Northeast-10 Conference.

The Greyhounds made it 2-0 as freshman forward/defenseman JOE FRASSO (Winthrop, MA/Hoosac Valley) scored his third goal of the season and second in the last two games at 9:42. Junior forward JOSH BOISSONEAU (Bedford, NH/Kimball Union) and sophomore forward PETER BOUCHIE (Belmont, MA/Hoosac Valley) were credited with assists on the play.

Fitzgibbons scored an insurance goal, his sixth of the season, in the second period at 10:47 on a feed from freshman forward PAT O'KANE (Hollis, NH/Williston-Northampton).

The Ice Dogs are next in action WEDNESDAY when they travel to Becker College at 7:45 p.m.
