Larsen, Blanchette lead Ice Dogs past Franklin Pierce, 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Freshman forward TAYLOR LARSEN (Blackstone, MA/Worcester Academy) scored a power-play goal in the third period to lift Assumption College past Franklin Pierce University, 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey action SATURDAY night in the Buffone Rink.

The win was backboned by the 28-save performance by freshman goalkeeper NICK BLANCHETTE (Stuart, FL/Worcester Academy). Junior defenseman JON RETELLE (Monmouth, ME/Monmouth) and senior defenseman/captain CHRIS GENOVESE (Woburn, MA/Governor's Academy) assisted on the Larsen goal.

Franklin Pierce opened the scoring in the game as senior forward SHANE MURPHY (Tolland, CT/Gunnery School) at 1:07 of the second period on feeds from freshman forward ANTHONY CHIGHISOLA (Whitman, MA/Archbishop Williams) and junior forward PHIL LABRECK (Thornton, NH/John Stark).

Sophomore forward PATRICK FITZGIBBONS (Holliston, MA/Saint John's) tied the game for the Greyhounds at 8:03 of the second period. Freshman defenseman MIKE LOONEY (Shrewsbury, MA/Saint John's) and sophomore defenseman MARC LABB (Longmeadow, MA/Vermont Academy) were credited with assists on the play.

Junior JON TUTTLE (Concord, NH/Concord) made 33 saves in goal for the Ravens.

Assumption, which outshot the Ravens, 35-29, is now 4-10-4 on the season, while Franklin Pierce is 5-10-2.

The Greyhounds are next in action TUESDAY at Johnson & Wales University (Rhode Island Sports Center in North Smithfield, RI). Faceoff is at 6:50 p.m.
