Fitchburg State stops Ice Dogs, 4-1, in non-conference game

FITCHBURG, Mass. --- Sophomore forward CHRIS RIGGS (Sewell, NJ) scored two goals to lead Fitchburg State College past Assumption College, 4-1, in a non-conference men's ice hockey game THURSDAY at the Wallace Civic Center.
Senior forward BOB KALOUSTIAN (Marlboro, MA) added a goal and an assist, while senior forward MATT ARSENAULT (Gardner, MA/Gardner) added two assists.
Freshman forward JOE FRASSO (Winthrop, MA/Winthrop) scored the lone goal for the Greyhounds.
Assumption opened the scoring midway through the first period as Frasso connected for his second goal of the season with assists credited to sophomore forward PETER BOUCHIE (Belmont, MA/Belmont) and freshman defenseman MIKE LOONEY (Shrewsbury, MA/Saint John's).
The Falcons came back moments later as Riggs redirected classmate ERIK TRAHAN 's (Manville, RI/Winchendon School) shot for his first goal of the game.
In the second period, Fitchburg State opened its lead to 3-1 as Kaloustian and Riggs scored. Kaloustian ignited the Falcons scoring just 0:25 into the period, scoring his sixth goal of the season, while Riggs went top corner for his second score midway through the period.
Fitchburg State sealed the win in third period, outshooting Assumption, 16-5. Junior forward CURTIS FLEMING (Fitchburg, MA/Fitchburg) added to the Falcons' lead as he scored his first collegiate goal at 5:49.
Fitchburg State outshot Assumption, 37-27, for the game, with six power-play opportunities. Sophomore goalkeeper ROBERT VORSE (Leominster, MA) had 26 saves, while freshman STEVE DI DOMENICO (Lowell, MA/Tilton School) stopped 33 shots for the Ice Dogs.
Fitchburg State, now 8-7-5 overall, plays next on Saturday at Suffolk University with faceoff at 7:15 p.m. Assumption, now 4-12-4, is also in action Saturday as it hosts Stonehill College at 7:30 p.m. The annual Alumni Game is slated for 4:30 p.m.
