Nick Blanchette backbones Greyhounds ice hockey past Becker, 3-1, with 39 saves

MARLBORO, Mass. --- Freshman goalkeeper NICK BLANCHETTE (Stuart, FL/Worcester Academy) continued his hot streak making 38 saves to backbone Assumption College past Becker College, 3-1, in a non-conference hockey game THURSDAY night at the New England Sports Center.
Blanchette has now made 85 saves in the last two games to post wins over Stonehill (3-0) and Becker. He lowered his goals-against average to 3.21 and improved his save percentage to .925 in 579 minutes of action. He leads the Northeast-10 Conference in both categories.
The Greyhounds scored twice in the second period as sophomore defenseman MARC LABB (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow/Vermont Academy) scored his fourth goal of the season on the power play at 12:25. Blanchette got his first career assist on the play.
Freshman forward DENNIS SILVIO (Beverly, MA/Beverly/Proctor) scored the eventual game-winner with 21 seconds left in the period on a feed from freshman defenseman KEVIN GLANZMAN (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa).
Becker got on the scoreboard as senior defenseman JOHN NOGATCH (Kirkland, WA) snapped Blanchette's scoreless string at 106 minutes with his ninth goal of the season. junior forward MIKE CAPRIO (Valencia, CA) and freshman forward NATE SAYER (Dracut, MA) assisted on the play at 6:01 of the third period.
The Greyhounds added an insurance goal at 12:06 as freshman forward PAT O'KANE (Hollis, NH/Williston-Northampton) scored his ninth goal of the season on feeds from freshman forward TAYLOR LARSEN (Blackstone, MA/Worcester Academy) and Labb. Larsen leads the Greyhounds in scoring with nine goals, seven assists for 16 points.
Junior goalkeeper TONY STOEHR (DePere, WI/Wisconsin River Falls) made 26 saves in net for the Hawks.
The Greyhounds, now 6-12-4 overall, play at Nichols College SUNDAY (Austin Levy Arena in Harrisville, RI) at 8:30 p.m. Becker, now 10-13 overall, hosts Western New England College SATURDAY at 4:45 p.m.
