Captain Rob Younker among the Greyhounds to qualify for Mass. Amateur Golf

Just graduated captain Rob Younker (Waltham, MA/Waltham) has qualified for and will play in the Massachusetts Golf Association Championship scheduled for July 13-17 at The Country Club in Brookline, MA.

Younker, who shot a qualifying round of 71 at the George Wright Country Club (Hyde Park, MA) on Thursday (June 4) will be joined by several other former Greyhounds.

Frank Vana '86, the M.G.A. Amateur champion in both 2004 and 2005, is a Greyhound Hall of Famer and also played in the N.C.A.A. Division II Nationals for Coach Andy Laska . . . he receives an automatic qualification having won the event in the last five years.

Also qualifying were Matt Dunn '89, R.J. Foley '83---both shot a 74 at Wollaston, MA C.C. and Dan Mastrotataro '86, who carded a 75 at Cranberry Valley G.C./Harwich, MA.

Other Greyhounds who played in the qualifying round and were unsuccessful included:

One of premier golfers in the Northeast-10 Conference Younker earned all-conference three times in his storied career, served as one of the captains for three seasons and posted a 78.50 career medal average for 69 rounds for Coach Tim Bibaud .

He posted three straight seasons of sub-80 medal scores, 78.4, 77.8 and 78.5. He finished in the top five 12 times, the top ten 16 times and in the top twenty 25 times in his career. He earned first-team all-conference honors in 2006, 2007 and second-team honors this past season. He was named the team's Most Valuable Player in both 2007 and 2009.

This past season he was fifth in the Assumption College Shoot Out (76), eighth in the ECAC Division II Championship (79-73--152) and eighth in the Northeast-10 Conference championship (73-78--151). He had nine rounds this past year 76 or under as the team's Most Valuable Player. He earned Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll four times.

Younker's teammate Jamie Farrea '10 shot a 79 in the Rhode Island State Amateur qualifying at Fenner Hill G.C. but failed to qualify.
