Saint Michael's defeats Greyhounds, 3-0, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Saint Michael's College scored two first-half goals and went on to defeat Assumption College, 3-0, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action SUNDAY in the Multi-Sport Stadium.
Saint Michael's is now 9-7 overall and also 9-7 in the conference, while the Greyhounds fall to 2-16 overall and 1-15 in conference play.
Sophomore forward NATALIE ELVIDGE (Newton, NJ/Newton) opened the scoring for the Purple Knights. Senior forward ANDREA SLAVEN (Danvers, MA/Bishop Fenwick) made a crossing pass in front of the net and Elvidge scored her fourth goal of the season on a rebound poke 6:30 into the period.
The Purple Knights scored their second goal on a penalty corner after the half had been completed. Salven netted her 11th goal of the season and senior midfielder ALEXANDRA SIMMONS (Bethlehem, NH/Profile) was credited with the assist.
Junior midfielder MOLLY DI MASI (Burlington, VT/Burlington) scored the only goal of the second half on a penalty stroke at 59:38.
Senior goalkeeper JORDAN SMALLING (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) posted the shutout in net with five saves, while Hound sophomore DANIELLE LUONGO (Northboro, MA/Algonquin) made seven saves at the other end.
The Greyhounds host Stonehill College Wednesday and celebrate their annual Senior Night beginning at 7 p.m.
