Bentley 22, Assumption 19

WALTHAM, Mass. --- Junior placekicker TYLER MC NAMARA (Medway, MA/Medway) kicked a 31-yard field goal with 3:11 left to cap an incredible comeback as Bentley College edged Assumption College, 22-19, in Northeast-10 Conference football action here last night.

Assumption College moved to a 19-0 first-period lead as sophomore wide receiver DOMINIQUE PRICE (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) and sophomore quarterback JOSH RATACIK (Manchester, NH/Central) became the first duo in Assumption College football history to combine for two touchdown passes of more than 70 yards in a game.

Assumption is now 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference, while Bentley moves to 3-3, 2-1.

Bentley drove 62 yards in seven plays for the game-winning points. A 49-yard pass from quarterback BRYANT JOHNSON (Hopedale, MA/Milford) to senior wide out JOHN STUDLEY (Peabody, MA/Peabody) to the Assumption 21 set up the score. Studley finished with 11 receptions for 97 yards. Hounds' junior defensive back BERNARD SCOTT (St. Petersburg, FL/Admiral Farragut) made a touchdown saving tackle. Junior linebacker COLIN MIYADI (Concord, CA/Berean Christian) made two keys stops to force the field goal attempt.

In the first period, Ratacik connected with Price on the first play of the game from 74 yards to give the Greyhounds a very quick 6-0 lead.

Ratacik who completed six-of-nine passes for team-record 207 yards in the first period also threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to senior wide out JOEY FABIANO (Westwood, MA/Westwood) and then finished the period with an 83-yard heave to Price who eluded several defenders en route to the end zone.

An offside penalty on the Falcons on a crucial third-down play, a Ratacik-to Price nine-yard pass play and an eight-yard burst by sophomore running back HERBERT WOODARD (Salem, NJ/Salem) highlighted the short drive.

On the next possession Ratacik found Price on a deep sideline pattern and the former Holy Name standout circled back toward the middle eluding several tacklers for the score. Freshman ZACK OKOLOWITCZ (Cranston, RI/Cranston West) kicked the conversion for a 19-0 advantage.

Hounds' sophomore defensive back NATE KUFFREY (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) stopped a Falcons' drive picking off a Bentley senior quarterback JOHN WHITE (Kingston, MA/Archbishop Williams) pass and returning to the 24.

A bad snap on a punt attempt led to the first Falcons points as Hound freshman punter GREG NOWAK (Oak Bluff, FL/Wellington) ran out of the endzone for the safety with 9:50 left in the half. The Falcons would drive 26 yards in six plays capped by a McNamara 31-yard field goal with 3:51 left in the half.

Bentley scored in the third period as freshman fullback MATT WELCH (Woburn, MA/Woburn) capped an eight-play, 47-yard drive with a five-yard burst up-the-middle. McNamara's conversion made it 19-12.

Bentley junior defensive back CHRIS CARROLL (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) intercepted Ratacik at the 35 and returned it 30 yards to the Assumption 35 to set up the score. Johnson connected with KYLE TUTHILL (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) and with Rowe for 10 yards to highlight the drive.

A last drive by the Greyhounds was stymied as defensive back DON HOPKINS (Waltham, MA/Waltham) intercepted at the 19.
