Tim Beinert earns NE-10 all-freshman accolade

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Assumption College senior forward KAYLA PARKER (Sanford, ME/Sanford) has been named to Northeast-10 Conference third-team all-stars as voted by the league coaches.

Freshman guard GABRIELLE GIBSON (Amityville, NY/Copiague) was named the co-Freshman-of-the-Year and also earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team. Backcourt mate KATY HOWARD (Medway, MA/Medway) also earned a spot on the all-rookie team.

On the men's side first-year guard/forward TIM BIENERT (Floral Park, NY/Holy Cross) was named to all-rookie team.

Parker, who averaged 11.7 points, 6.0 rebounds with a team-leading 44 blocked shots, has led the Greyhounds to a 15-12 regular-season record as the team prepares for first-round action in the conference playoffs. The Hounds host Southern New Hampshire University Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Laska Gym. She has been an instrumental part of the team for Coach KERRY PHAYRE as the Greyhounds have five first-year players on the squad playing significant minutes including its all first-year backcourt.

Parker has scored 1,223 points in her career to date which puts her in eighth position all-time just 10 points behind No. 7 Carol Krupa (1981-85) at 1,233. She is also just two games short of tying the team record for career games played (115).

Gibson leads the team in scoring at 12.0 points-per-game and has 26 three-pointers (second on the team) and has a .797 free throw percentage (55-for-69) and a team-leading 40 steals. Howard, the starting point guard, is among the conference leaders in assists (104) and leads the team in minutes played (827). She also has 24 three-pointers and 25 steals. Freshman guard Bianca Simmons of UMass Lowell shared the Freshman-of-the-Year award with Gibson.

Bienert led the men's team to a 13-14 regular-season record and averaged 9.5 points per game while starting 20 of 24 games. The Greyhounds, the defending playoff champion, open play in the conference playoffs Saturday at the University of Massachusetts Lowell at 1 p.m.
