Greyhounds baseball completes sweep of Stonehill with 10-4 win behind righthander Frank Flynn

EASTON, Mass. --- Freshman righthander FRANK FLYNN (Worcester, MA/Saint Peter-Marian) pitched seven strong innings and senior MIKE DI REDA (Shrewsbury, MA/Saint John's) had three hits including his third home run and three RBI to lead Assumption College past Stonehill College, 10-4, in a Northeast-10 Conference game here SUNDAY at Gorman Field.
The Greyhounds, now 9-7 overall, are 3-0 in the conference with their three-game sweep of the Skyhawks tied for first place with UMass Lowell. Assumption swept a Saturday doubleheader, 9-1 and 11-10, at Rocheleau Field. Stonehill is now 0-3 in the conference and 7-9 overall.
Freshman catcher ED MC DONALD (Arlington, MA/Arlington Catholic) contributed a three-run double in a six-run fifth inning as the Greyhounds rallied from a 3-2 deficit.
The Skyhawks moved to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning. Senor outfielder NATE WEBER (Hanson, MA/Whitman-Hanson) stroked an RBI single and senior shortstop JULIO GUZMAN (San Juan, PR/Colegio San Jose) plated another with an infield fielders choice.
An RBI double by sophomore outfielder JOSH DUFRESNE (Auburn, MA/Auburn) cut the deficit in half in the third inning for the Hounds and DiReda's home run tied it in the fourth inning. Junior catcher RYAN HEALEY (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) homered for Stonehill to make it 3-2 Skyhawks also in the fourth inning.
Junior first baseman TIM SCAFIDI (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) and freshman outfielder MIKE FOLEY (Worcester, MA/Saint John's) had RBI singles in the six-run fifth inning for the Hounds highlighted by McDonald's clout up the leftcenterfield gap for three more runs.
Flynn threw just 67 pitches in his seven innings of work allowing just six hits. Junior righthander DENNIS WIRZBURGER (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) and sophomore righthander JOE MARTINI (Arlington, MA/Arlington) finished up for the Greyhounds.
