Greyhounds baseball stopped by Pace, 9-6, in Northeast-10 Conference game

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior shortstop ANDRE LISCINSKY (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) had four hits and three RBI to spark Pace University past Assumption College, 9-6, in Northeast-10 Conference baseball SUNDAY at Rocheleau Field.

In addition, freshman righthander STEVEN D'ANGELO (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains) and senior ERIC BROWN (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) combined to pitch five strong innings in relief allowing just three hits and one run with six strikeouts.

For the Greyhounds, senior rightfielder STEVE SCANNELL (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) had three hits and two RBI, while senior second baseman MIKE BAILLARGEON (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) had two hits including his fifth home run and junior first baseman TIM SCAFIDI (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) and senior third baseman MIKE DI REDA (Shrewsbury, MA/Saint John's) each added two hits.

The Setters started quickly as senior outfielder JOE COTONE (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland) capped a three-run first inning with a two-run home run (his second of the season).

After the Greyhounds got a pair of runs in the second inning on errors, senior outfielder ANDRE LISCINSKY (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) stroked his second RBI single in the third to make it 4-2. The Hounds got one back in the fourth on an RBI double by Scannell and a bases-loaded walk to junior catcher MATTHEW JOSE (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken) and an RBI single by Scannell put the Greyhounds in front, 5-4, after five innings.

An RBI grounder by senior third baseman DENIS ALIMONTI (Jefferson, NY/Lakeland) and a RBI single by junior outfielder J.J. CONRAD (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) put Pace back in front 6-5 in the sixth before Baillargeon homered to tie it 6-6 in the bottom of the inning.

Freshman catcher STEVEN STERLACCI (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) singled across the go-ahead run in the seventh and the Setters added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth.

The Greyhounds are now 14-11 overall and 7-4 in the conference, while Pace is 11-17-1 overall and 6-7 in the conference.
