WORCESTER, Mass. --- Junior outfielder DEREK MIGRANTS (Ayer, MA/Ayer) had three hits and four RBI and Assumption College hit three home runs en route to an 8-7 non-conference win over Saint Anselm College WEDNESDAY at Rocheleau Field.
Saint Anselm built a 5-1 advantage into the sixth inning as junior second baseman MYKE FORTIER (Andover, MA/Andover) keyed a two-run second inning with an RBI single and freshman outfielder TIM COONEY (East Bridgewater, MA/Cardinal Spellman) had another in a two-run sixth.
The Greyhounds got a single run in the second inning as senior third baseman MIKE DIREDA (Shrewsbury, MA/Saint John's) hammered his seventh home run in the second inning. They added five more in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 6-5 lead.
Junior first baseman TIM SCAFIDI (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) hit his fourth home rn to lead the inning and after DiReda coaxed a walk sophomore designated hitter WALLY DEROSIER (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) hammered his first to rightcenter. After sophomore outfielder JOSH DUFRESNE (Auburn, MA/Auburn) and senior outfielder STEVE SCANNELL (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) singled, Migrants drilled a two-run single to left centerfield for their first lead of the game.
An RBI single by freshman designated hitter JOHN HEALY (Cranston, RI/Cranston East) and an error put the Hawks back in front in the top of the seventh inning. Migrants tripled home the tying run and eventual game-winner in the eighth inning. Migrants is just the sixth Greyhound to knocked across 50 runs in a season and now has 51, just nine short o Dan McGowan's team-record of 60 in 2000.
Junior righthander TIM DUPUIS (Suffield, CT/Suffield High) picked up his team-record eighth save with a scoreless ninth.
The Greyhounds, now 26-16-1, play THURSDAY at American International College in a Northeast-10 Conference game and then finish the regular-season with home-and-home doubleheaders with the College of Saint Rose this weekend. The 26 wins is the most for the Greyhounds since they finished 27-11-1 in 1993.
