Women's tennis wins Salve Regina Grass Courts Doubles Tournament in Newport

SALVE REGINA UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S GRASS COURT DOUBLES TOURNAMENT

played at International Tennis Hall of Fame, Newport, RI

NEWPORT, RI --- The Assumption College women's tennis opened its 2007-08 season in style winning the Salve Regina University Grass Courts Doubles Tournament here SATURDAY at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

The Greyhounds amassed 16 points to outdistance Roger Williams University (10 points) and Northeast-10 Conference rival Bryant University (10 points).

In Flight A, the Hounds senior duo of JULIA KILGORE (Wilton, NH/North Middlesex) and RACHAEL HANSEN (Holden, MA/Wachusett) won their three matches over tandems from Eastern Nazarene (8-2), Bryant (9-8) and finally over Roger Williams' Katelyn Leone and Jessica Manners (8-5) in the championship match.

In Flight B, seniors KATE MATTEI (Rochdale, MA/Notre Dame) and captain MEGAN WNUK (North Providence, RI/LaSalle) won three straight matches over Eastern Nazarene, Bridgewater State and finally in the flight title match over Roger Williams, Joanna Netteselz and Leah Ribchinsky (8-3).

Sophomore CAITLIN HARVEY (Rutland, MA/Wachusett) and senior AMANDA BOYER (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) won two preliminary round matches over Emmanual (8-4) and Bridgewater State (8-3) before dropping a heartbreaker (9-8) with an 8-6 tiebreaker.
