Lauren Matysiak's 28th career shutout leads Greyhound women's soccer, 1-0, in Hilton Garden Inn-NIKE Friendly

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior goalkeeper LAUREN MATYSIAK (Holden, MA/Wachusett) registered her 28th career shutout among her 36 career wins as the Assumption College women's soccer team defeated Georgian Court, NJ, 1-0, in the first-round of the Hilton Garden Inn-NIKE Friendly at the Multi-Sports Stadium FRIDAY night.
In the opener Northeast-10 Conference rival Bryant University played a double-overtime 1-1 tie with L.I.U.-C.W. Post.
The mixer continues Sunday as Bryant will play Georgian Court at 12 noon and the Greyhounds take on L.I.U.-C.W. Post at 3 p.m.
The only offense of the game for the Greyhounds came just 12:07 into the contest as freshman forward KRISTINA GILLEN (Carver, MA/Carver) scored her first career goal on a feed from sophomore midfielder CARINA RUSSO (North Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth). Russo chipped the ball over the defender and Gillen floated the ball over the head of Golden Falcons goalie Lindsay Hammond.
Matysiak finished with just one save, while Hammond made two for the Golden Falcons. The Greyhounds outshot Georgian Court, 11-1.
In the opener Bryant University's Holly Taylor scored on a sliding kick in the 80th minute to tie the game on a cross feed from Tricia Spada. C.W. Post's Maria Sonnerborg scored the game's first goal at the 7:48 mark of the first half heading a lead pass from Melissa Pascarella into the far corner.
C.W. Post goalkeeper Kim Yaranda made five saves for the Pioneers, while Katie Mitchell (first half) (1 save) and Jessica Clark (3 saves) shared duties for Bryant. Bryant outshot C.W. Post, 13-5.
Assumption is now 1-1 on the season, while Georgian Court court falls to 1-2. Bryant is now 2-0-1 and C.W. Post (1-1)
