Greyhounds women's soccer plays to 1-1 tie with C.W. Post in Hilton Garden Inn-NIKE Friendly

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior captain/goalkeeper LAUREN MATYSIAK (Holden, MA/Wachusett) made 10 saves as the Assumption College women's soccer team tied regional ranked L.I.U.-C.W. Post, 1-1, in the second day of action here SUNDAY in the Hilton Garden Inn-NIKE Friendly.

In the first game, Northeast-10 Conference rival Bryant University defeated Georgian Court, NJ, University, 3-0, as junior goalkeeper Jessica Clark registered the shutout.

The Bulldogs got goals from freshman midfielder Sarah Donovan . . . unassisted as she collected a deflection off a defender and found the net high on the left side; senior midfielder Tricia Spada . . . on a penalty kick and junior midfielder Amy Orzechowski on a feed from freshman midfielder Sarah Donovan.

In the second game, the host Greyhounds other captain, senior forward ASHLEY MC MAHON (Bethel, CT/Immaculate), provided the offense with her first goal of the young season in the early moments of the second half.

McMahon took a feed from sophomore forward KATIE DI CIOCCIO (Wappingers Falls, NY/Ketcham) and beat Pioneers senior goalie Kim Yacenda (7 saves) to the right side in the 47th minute. The lead however was shortlived as the Pioneers, ranked 10th in last week's NSCAA Northeast Region poll, struck in the 51st minute.

Junior forward Maria Sonnerborg scored her second goal of the friendly as freshman midfielder Ivana Babic sent her in alone with a nifty touch pass. Sonnerborg beat Matysiak to the left side.

Assumption outshot the Pioneers 17-16.

The Greyhounds are next in action as they faceoff against Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire WEDNESDAY at 4 p.m.
