Goldstein (7 goals) leads women's lacrosse past Franklin Pierce

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior captain/attack JENNA GOLDSTEIN (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) scored a team-season high seven goals including the 100th of her career and assisted on another to lead Assumption College past Franklin Pierce University, 20-18, in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse SATURDAY at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
Goldstein is just the third Greyhound to reach 100 goals following all-Americans Jenny Mongeau (2003-06) (188) and Karen Shaw (1998-99) (105). She finished the season with 27 goals, eight assists for 35 points and concluded her career with 101 goals, 35 assists for 136 points, second-best in Hounds' annals to Mongeau (188-33--221).
The Greyhounds, who honored their seniors before the game, had four other multiple-goal scorers including junior midfielder SHANNON HOWARD (Norfolk, MA/King Philip) (3 goals, 2 assists), freshman attack BECCA KELLEY (Westfield, MA/Westfield) (3 goals), sophomore attack EMILY MORRELL (Bethany, CT/Amity) (3 goals) and senior captain/defenseman KATIE CAPPIELLO (Woodbridge, CT/Amity) (2 goals, 1 assist).
Freshman attack LAUREN STILLE (North Quincy, MA/North Quincy), the conference's leading goal-scorer with 73 goals, scored seven goals to lead the Ravens' attack. Freshman attack JORDAN BAILLARGEON (Westfield, MA/Westfield) had four goals, while junior attack CARLA SAVINI (Danvers, MA/Danvers) and freshman attack ASHLEY MOIRANO (South Burlington, VT/South Burlington) each had three goals.
Before the game, seniors were presented medallions including Goldstein, Cappiello, midfielder/defender KRISTINA TOPHAM (North Andover, MA/North Andover) and goalkeeper LAUREN MATYSIAK (Holden, MA/Wachusett).

The Greyhounds sped to an 11-6 lead in the first half as Goldstein led the offensive parade with four goals. The Ravens scored an amazing four goals in the final minute, two by Stille, to cut the deficit to one at the break.
Assumption came out in the second half and scored the first four goals in 3:41 by Morrell, Goldstein, sophomore attack LAUREN EKNOIAN (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) and Kelley to move to a 15-10 lead.
After the Ravens again cut the deficit to one goal, 18-17, on the 39th goal of the season by freshman attack JORDAN BAILLARGEON (Westfield, MA/Westfield), Goldstein and Kelley quickly made it a three-goal game, 20-17, with 2:01 left.
Franklin Pierce enjoyed a 43-42 advantage in shots and also led in ground balls (31-28).
Matysiak made 17 saves for the Greyhounds, while senior keeper MICHAELA SULLIVAN (Arlington, MA/Arlington) made 15 for the Ravens.
The Greyhounds finished the season at 2-14 overall and 2-8 in the conference, while Franklin Pierce is now 3-13 and 1-9.
GREYHOUNDS NOTES: the Greyhounds posted team seasonal highs for points (28) and goals (20), shots (52) and shots on goal (42) . . . Goldstein had season highs for the Greyhounds in both goals (7) and points (8), her second eight-point game (also against Southern Connecticut, 2/23/08), this week . . . she also had a season-high 15 shots including 12 on goal . . . she finished her career with 16 goals, 3 assists over the last three games . . . Kelley finished the season with 31 goals, 4 assists for 35 points, the sixth-best freshman season in Hounds' annals . . . Howard finished with 20 goals, 12 assists for 32 points and is prime position to move into the 100-point career club with 45-22--78 points . . .
