Jenna Goldstein leads women's lacrosse past American International College, 19-15, in Northeast-10 Conference offensive thriller

WORCESTER, Mass. --- Senior attack JENNA GOLDSTEIN (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) led a quartet of four-goal scorers and a season-high 52-shot attack as Assumption College women's lacrosse defeated American International College, 19-15, WEDNESDAY night at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
Senior goalkeeper LAUREN MATYSIAK (Holden, MA/Wachusett) made 17 saves to post the victory for the Greyhounds, now 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Freshman goalkeeper GINA GALLO (Westfield, MA/Westfield) made 23 saves for the Yellow Jackets.
Also scoring four goals for the Greyhounds were junior attack SHANNON HOWARD (Norfolk, MA/King Philip), freshman attack BECCA KELLEY (Westfield, MA/Westfield) and sophomore attack EMILY MORRELL (Bethany, CT/Amity).
The Greyhounds stormed to a quick 2-0 lead as Kelley scored her team-leading 15th goal just 2:01 into the first half and Goldstein followed with her sixth at 7:34.
American International senior attack CAITLIN MOONEY (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug) led the Yellow Jackets with six goals and two assists.
The Yellow Jackets came right back to move in front 3-2 as sophomore midfielder MORGAN MASTRONARDI (Corunna, Ontario/Sarnia Conega), freshman attack JENA KUHL (Throggs Neck, NY/Arlington) and sophomore attack DANIELLE HODECKER (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield) each scored with in a two minute frame, Goals by ERIN THERIAULT (Feeding Hills, MA/Agawam) and Morrell in the final 1:03 gave the Greyhounds a 10-6 cushion at the break.
Mooney's third straight goal and her fourth of the game with 22:22 left in the second half put American International back in front, 13-12, before the Greyhounds countered with three straight of their own by Goldstein, Kelley and Morrell to move to a 15-13 lead with 18:07 remaining.
Mooney and Goldstein exchanged goals to make it 16-14 before senior attack ALEXIS CASTRO (Chula Vista, CA/Coronado) made it a one-goal game at 16-15 with a goal with 6:21 left.
Morrell, Theriault, and freshman attack ERIN GOMBOS (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) scored insurance goals over the final 3:41 to put it away.
The Greyhounds host Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley College SATURDAY at 1:30 p.m. and non-conference rival Georgian Court, NJ SUNDAY at 12 noon.
GREYHOUNDS NOTES: senior/captain defender KATIE CAPPIELLO (Woodbridge, CT/Amity) and Goldstein each had seven ground balls to lead the Greyhounds, who enjoyed a 45-21 advantage . . . senior attack JENNA GOLDSTEIN (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) has now amassed 83 goals (third all time) passing Tiffany Gull (2001-04) (80) and Lauren Swiatek (2002-05) (82) . . . and 32 assists (fourth-all-time three more than MaryEllen Sullivan (1999 02) (30) and just behind Jenny Mongeau (2003-06) (33) . . . for 115 points in her career . . . she is the fifth-leading scorer just two-points behind Karen Shaw (1998-99) (117) . . .
