Bethany Plasski, Molly Griffiths lead Greyhound women's basketball to sixth straight win at Bryant, 58-48January 8, 2008
ASSUMPTION 58, BRYANT 48
SMITHFIELD, RI --- Assumption College bolted out to a quick 10-1 advantage en route to a 58-48 women's basketball victory over Bryant University in Northeast-10 Conference action TUESDAY night at the Chace Athletic Center. The Greyhounds, who have now won six straight games and nine of their last 10, are now 13-3 overall and 7-2 in the conference. Bryant, which had won nine of its last 10 since losing to the Greyhounds, 79-49, earlier in the season at Laska Gym is now 11-4 overall and 6-4 in conference. Freshman guard MOLLY GRIFFITHS (Walpole, MA/Ursuline Academy) opened the game with a wing jumper off a feed from junior guard/captain BETH PLASSKI (Fall River, MA/Durfee) and Bryant's LYNNE ANN KOKOSKI (Hatfield, MA/Smith) followed with one of two free throws. Senior forward CHARDE FLOYD (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) scored off an inside move and Plasski drilled two three-pointers to complete the opening assault. A jumper by Griffiths with 7:21 left in the half gave the Greyhounds their largest lead at 29-16. Bryant would cut the gap to eight points, 35-27, at the break. Plasski led all scorers at the half with nine points, while Floyd owned the boards with eight rebounds and added four steals. Former Quaboag standout KELSEY O'KEEFE (Warren, MA/Quaboag) led Bryant with seven points. The Bulldogs made things interesting in the second half as Kokoski made a free throw with 57 seconds left to cut the gap to six (52-46), but Hounds' junior point TRISH GARDNER (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth) made two free throws and Plasski added two more as the Hounds increased the lead to 10, 56-46, with 40 seconds remaining. Plasski had 13 points to lead the Greyhounds, while Griffiths was the only other double-figure scorer with 10 points. Sophomore guard LESLIE LUPIEN (Pomfret Center, CT/Woodstock Academy) added nine points, while Floyd scored six points and had 13 rebounds and five steals. Kokoski led Bryan with 12 points and seven assists. Floyd now has 986 career rebounds in her career and could go over the 1,000 mark Thursday when the Greyhounds host Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Michael's College at 5:30 p.m. CLICK HERE FOR SCORING SUMMARY |
